Apologies for Absence

Rceived from Sian Priest & Guy Westhead.

Minutes of the last AGM

These were made available to all present (as well as having been published on the website), & there were no matters arising.

Captain's Report

The season’s match statistics were that the Dodgers won 11, tied 1, & lost 12 games. This was a good come back after losing the first 5 games, & there were a few cancellations for various reasons. Dodgers strength in depth was increased this season, with some welcome additions to the team, namely Sacha Hateea, Rob Cooper & Peter Lee Junior (no relation to Peter Lee Senior) however, we do need to improve our all-round fielding. Phil McBarron scored over 550 runs, with the highlight being his maiden Dodgers ton, although Sacha led the averages with 60 & John Cooper was the leading wicket taker with 15. Overall, we had a reasonably good year & also won a trophy in the Civil Service 6-a-side tournament (jointly shared with the Superstars).

Finance Report

The Treasurer John Cooper gave his report, & as at November 2009 the Dodgers account was in credit by £665. This represented a profit of £139 over the year, after various loan repayments. The Dodgers membership fee will remain at £10 each & there were 25 paid up members in 2008, an increase of 6 from last year. £250 in membership fees & £965 in match fees were collected during the year. The full accounts will be made available soon by the Treasurer for auditing by Franca, & they will be shown to the Committee at its next meeting in 2010.

Election of Officers for 2010

The following were elected unopposed standing for the posts as indicated:

John Carr (Captain)
Neil Priest (Vice-Captain)
Phil McBarron (Chairman)
John Cooper (Treasurer)
Robert Fox (Secretary)
Kim Matthews (Fixture Secretary)
Peter Lee Snr. (Committee Member without Portfolio)

Thanks were recorded for all the Committee's efforts during the past year.

Subscription, Match & Net Fees for 2010

It was agreed that these will stay the same as last year as follows:

- Dodgers Membership = £10.00
- Evening Match (No Tea) = £3.50
- Afternoon Match (No Tea) = £4.00
- Afternoon Match (With Tea) = £5.00
- Evening Nets @ The Oval = £5.00.

Away fees will be the same as those of Home games.

Selection Policy for 2010

It was agreed that nobody should have to miss 2 games in a row that they are available for, except for the few "higher profile" games where the opposition are particularly strong. This will be proportioned to general availability, to try & prevent any last minute withdrawals. A reserves list will also be in operation. Nobody will open both the batting & the bowling to give everyone a fair game.

Recruitment & Website

The Dodgers website www.dodgerscricket.org is maintained by John Cooper, who was thanked for his efforts. The domain name is billed bi-annually has been paid for until August 2011. Hosting is billed annually and is paid for until August 2010. The website has the relevant details for anyone interested in joining up. Word of mouth recruitment is also helpful, as only about 5% of new recruits came via the posters put up around the various Govt. buildings. Any Match reports & blogs will be very welcome next season, & are easy to upload apparently. Anyone interested in contributing should contact JC2. A proposal that the Man of the Match should write the match report was discussed and was generally thought to be a good idea.

2010 Fixtures

Kim Matthews has taken on the role of Fixture Secretary again & thanks were given to him for all his sterling work in organising the fixtures. He mentioned that the coming year would be his final one as Fixture Secretary, and asked for a volunteer to help him this year to enable a smooth transition next year.

The fixtures for the coming year are likely to be similar to those of last year, but a few new ones are planned. The possibility of playing more games at other grounds (e.g. Barnes Common or Fullers), given that Chiswick will be reduced to 3 pitches & no bar next season, is also being investigated.

Equipment Purchases

A full equipment audit will be undertaken during the close season; however, a complete new set of batting gear will be purchased for next season, as well as boxes of red & white balls. Pete Lee Senior also has a helmet people can borrow as well. A locker will also be made available for use to store equipment in at Great Minster House (DfT building) for away games etc.

Closed Season Activities & Other Social Events

Nets have been booked for various dates next March & April 2010 & JC2 take bookings for spaces in January. Pre-Christmas drinks in the Cask Pub at Pimlico on 17 December have been arranged.

2009 Player Awards

Player of the Season: Simon Cousins
Top Batsman: Sacha Hatteea
Top Bowler: Rob Cooper
Best Fielder: Matthew Taylor
Most Improved Player: Mike Dollin
Champagne Moment: 6-a-side team sharing winning the DfT/CLG Civil Service inter-departmental Tournament.

Any Other Business

It was proposed (by Neil Priest) & seconded (by John Carr) that David Pope should be elected a life member of the Dodgers Club, on account of his unique contribution to the club over many years, for which he was thanked by everyone present. David announced earlier this season that unfortunately he had to retire from Cricket for health reasons. He will be missed, & hopefully he will still be able come & watch games next season.

Dodgers have unanimously agreed to give £100 to Superstars for a trophy or shield to be purchased in memory of Ken Block, one of their stalwarts who tragically passed away earlier this year. It will be played for in a special game between us & Superstars every season, with former colleagues of his invited.

No Dodgers Cricket Tour took place in 2009 as there was not enough interest, however, the Superstars team is hoping to tour over the early May Bank Holiday weekend in 2010 (venue TBC), & anyone interested in going should contact Barry Gigg.

Date of Next Committee Meeting

It was proposed to hold the next Dodgers Committee Meeting on 2 March 2010 (after nets) at the Hanover Arms, near the Oval.

ii) New equipment was purchased during the year consisting of a bat, some pads & new balls. Kim will check if anything else needs replacing. Some of the old kit needs weeding out to thin out the kitbags (which are in Kim's garage).

iii) Rod looked into the purchase of Dodgers Caps in either baseball or baggy style, but due to the high costs involved, it was agreed not to buy them at the moment. The idea could be revived if anyone knows where a good discount can be arranged.

2006 AGM and Social Report

What we lacked in official documentation we made up for in healthy
discussion and (not-so-healthy) amounts of drinking at the 2006 Dodgers
AGM and Social in the splendid surroundings of The Wenlock Arms, N1,
last Wednesday. Yes, we may not have had any minutes or accounts but
there was plenty to talk about. There will hopefully be minutes of this
occasion thanks to incoming Secretary Rob Fox but it's worth noting this
apppointment and that of Peter Lee who was elected as Committee Member
Without Portfolio.

The Dodgers Awards were dominated by there a) not being any awards and
b) no-one to present the awards we did have to! The final reckoning
was:

Best Fielder: Rob Fox
Most Improved Player: Tawhid Qureshi (who also won an additional award
'Worst Secretary In The History of Dodgers')
Best Batsman: Russell Marr
Best Bowler: John Hilary
Player of the Season: John Cooper

Thursday 24 February 2005, The Marquis of Granby

Present: John Adey (JA), Neil Benn (NB), Jude Brierley (JB), John Cooper (JC2), Simon Cousins (SC), John Hilary (JH), Matt Leach, Kim Matthews (KM), Phil McBarron (PM), Neil Priest (NP), Tawhid Qureshi (TQ), Matt Taylor (MT), Guy Westhead (GW)

Chair: JA

1. Apologies

1.1 Apologies had been received from Andrew Crawford (AC), John Carr (JC), Alex Luke (AL), David Pope (DP).

2. Minutes of 2004 AGM (07/11/03)

2.2 The minutes from the last AGM were formally agreed without comment.

3. Finance

3.1 JC2 reported that £278 had been carried forward from the 2003 accounts (31/12/03 year end). Franca McBarron (FM) had verified the 2003 accounts, and these had been signed off. The meeting thanked Franca for auditing the accounts, as well as thanking AC as outgoing treasurer.

3.2 JC2 reported that the 2004 accounts had shown a net income of £38, and said that loans from members had helped to maintain a positive account balance. It was noted that NB had provided a loan to the Club of £50. Payment in advance for Chiswick pitch fees had not helped cashflow.

3.3 The meeting thanked AC for his services as outgoing treasurer, and it was acknowledged that he took over the role in difficult circumstances.

4. Election of Officers for 2005

4.1 The following officers were re-elected unopposed:

Chairman: JA
Fixture Secretary: KM
Captain: JC
Vice-Captain: NP
Honorary Auditor: FM
Additional Member: NB

4.2 AC had previously stood down as Treasurer, and the following new officers were appointed unopposed:

Treasurer: JC2
Secretary: TQ

5. Subscriptions and Match fees for 2005

5.1 It was agreed that membership subscription should be increased to £10, and this would take effect immediately. This measure would aid a positive account balance at the start of the 2006 season.

5.2 It was agreed that match fees should remain the same as 2004:

Evening match fee: £3.50
Afternoon (no tea) match fee: £4.00
Afternoon (with tea) match fee: £5.00

6. Selection Policy for 2005

6.1 It was agreed that this should remain the same as in 2004. The best eleven would be selected each week by John Carr in consultation with Neil Priest. John would have the final say on selection with the following caveats:

a) Nobody should have to miss two matches in a row.
b) Opposition’s strength to be taken into account when selected the side (ie. The stronger the opposition the stronger the Dodgers side to be selected).
c) Account to be taken of people repeatedly dropping out at the last minute without a good excuse.

6.2 It was agreed that once selected teams would continue to be posted on the website, as well as e-mail notification.

7. Recruitment

7.1 JC2 reported that few new members had been recruited through the website and internal publicity from last year

7.2 It was agreed that posters should be placed in Eland House and Caxton house. GW confirmed that he would be putting posters up in the Treasury.

7.3 PM encouraged everyone to make an effort in recruiting new members by asking colleagues.

8. Fixtures 2005

8.1 It was agreed that the spread of games had been correct in 2004, with normally one game per week (occasionally two) and some weekend games.

8.2 KM reminded the meeting that with block bookings at Chiswick, refunds were not available for games that were canceled due to bad weather.

9. Closed Season Activties

9.1 None were reported, and JA requested any ideas to be forwarded to the committee.

9.2 JC2 informed the meeting that places on pre-season nets had not been fully taken up, although he anticipated that with further reminders sent out, all places would be taken up.

10. Any Other Business

10.1 The issue of applying for SPARTA funding was discussed, and it was agreed that too many conditions were attached to funding applications. Previous attempts at procuring SPARTA funding had failed, and last year it was decided not to try as there were not enough SPARTA members within the Club.

10.2 JC2 requested that any prospective website contributors should contact him, and he would provide them with blogging access.

10.3 The meeting was reminded that all Dodgers were invited to the Superstars AGM on 01/04/05.

Booking now open for Nets 2005

As previously announced, the following net sessions have been booked for 2005, all of them on Tuesdays 6-7pm

March 1, 8, 15
April 5, 12

[£4 each per session. All one lane per session except for 12 April when we have two]

There are only five sessions but this is due to the constraints of the work that they are doing to carry out much needed upgrades to the facilities at the Ken Barrington Centre at The Oval.

Demand for spaces usually exceeds capacity for Dodgers nets. Places are allocated on a strictly first come first served basis and are subject to availability. Please use the online form at the bottom of the Nets 2005 page to book your place.

Beware that if you don't let us know in time that you won't be making it and we're unable to refill your space we will have to charge you the £4 fee anyway.

Dodgers Awards 2004

It's back, the Dodgers Awards, or 'Dodgies' if you will. Wrapping up the 2004 season in style. As usual there will also be the real awards that are calculated on the performances of the season - Best Batsman, Best Bowler and the prestigious Player of the Season. For the first time we are also taking votes for Best Fielder and Most Improved Player here on the website. And then we have the now traditional extra awards that don't come with any trophy as such but leave recipients with a glowing feeling nonetheless.

The awards will be announced at the AGM and Social 2004. Watch this space for details.

Happy Birthday dodgerscricket.org!

It was the first birthday of the website on 7 August. In the first year we have gradually seen the site replace the old style match reports (which took ages to appear), a burgeoning collection of photo galleries, commenting on post (now available to one and all) and plenty of pi$$taking player profiles. We have also filled up our webspace and will need to pay for some extra! New developments will see the launch of a new design and the eventual completion of sections like previous years' stats.
